To start the Toro Recycler 20448 mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the throttle is set to 'choke' if the engine is cold, and the safety bar is engaged. Then, pull the starter rope briskly.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always check the oil level before each use.
Sharpen the mower blades at least once per mowing season or more frequently if the grass appears torn or shredded after mowing.
If the mower won't start, check for sufficient fuel and oil levels, verify the spark plug condition, and ensure the air filter is clean. Also, make sure the safety bar is fully engaged.
To clean the mower deck, ensure the engine is off and the spark plug is disconnected. Tilt the mower on its side and use a garden hose or scraper to remove grass clippings and debris.
For winter storage, clean the mower thoroughly, change the oil, remove any fuel or use a fuel stabilizer, and store the mower in a dry place. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starts.
Adjust the cutting height by using the height adjustment levers located near each wheel. Set all wheels to the same height for an even cut.
Uncut grass may be due to dull blades, clogged undercarriage, or mowing too fast. Ensure the blades are sharp, clean the deck, and mow at a moderate speed.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, inspecting the spark plug, and sharpening the blades.
If the mower is vibrating excessively, check for debris stuck in the blade area, ensure the blade is balanced and securely fastened, and inspect the engine mounting bolts.
