To start the Toro Recycler 20443 mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the spark plug is connected, and the engine oil is at the correct level. Then, pull the starter handle lightly until resistance is felt, then pull briskly.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), use SAE 5W-30. Check the oil level before each use and change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then annually or every 50 hours.
Sharpen the mower blade at least once a season or after every 25 hours of use to ensure a clean cut and prevent damage to the lawn. Always balance the blade after sharpening.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is clean and connected, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Ensure the safety lever is engaged when starting.
To clean the mower deck, ensure the mower is off and cool. Use a garden hose to spray under the deck, removing grass clippings and debris. Avoid using high-pressure water to prevent damage.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a damaged or unbalanced blade. Inspect the blade for damage and ensure it is properly balanced. Tighten any loose components and check the mower deck for debris.
To change the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire, remove the old spark plug using a spark plug wrench, and install a new spark plug. Ensure it is gapped correctly and tighten it securely.
The Toro Recycler 20443 has a cutting height range of 1.25 to 4.25 inches. Adjust the height based on grass type and condition, typically setting it higher in hot and dry conditions to prevent stress on the lawn.
To winterize the mower, run the engine dry of fuel, change the oil, clean the deck, and remove the battery if applicable. Store the mower in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements.
To adjust the self-propel drive, locate the adjustment cable on the handle. Turn the adjustment knob clockwise to increase speed or counterclockwise to decrease it. Ensure the adjustment is made while the mower is off.
