To start the Toro Recycler 20316 mower, ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Press and hold the safety bar against the handle, then pull the starter rope firmly. For electric start models, turn the key instead.
Use SAE 30 weight oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always check the oil level before use and change it after the first 5 hours of operation and then annually or every 50 hours.
To clean the mower deck, ensure the engine is off and completely cooled. Disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starting. Use a garden hose to spray the underside of the deck, removing grass clippings and debris.
If the mower doesn't start, check the fuel level and ensure fresh fuel is used. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage, and clean or replace it as needed. Additionally, verify that the air filter is clean.
Sharpen the blades at least once a year or after every 25 hours of use. Dull blades can tear grass, leading to an uneven cut. Disconnect the spark plug before removing the blade for sharpening.
It's not recommended to mow wet grass as it can lead to clumping and clogging of the mower deck, and it may also cause uneven cuts. Wait until the grass is dry for optimal mowing performance.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position, ensuring all four wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
For winter storage, clean the mower thoroughly and drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil and remove the spark plug, adding a few drops of oil into the cylinder. Store the mower in a dry, sheltered location.
To replace the air filter, turn off the mower and disconnect the spark plug wire. Open the air filter cover, remove the old filter, and install a new one, ensuring it is seated correctly. Secure the cover before reconnecting the spark plug wire.
Regular maintenance checks include inspecting and cleaning the air filter, checking and changing the oil, inspecting the spark plug, and sharpening the blades. Additionally, check the wheels and height adjustment mechanisms for proper operation.
