To start the mower, ensure the parking brake is engaged, the PTO switch is off, and the throttle is set to choke. Turn the ignition key to start the engine and release it once the engine starts.
Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours of operation or at least once per mowing season.
Check if the PTO switch is in the 'On' position. Inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Ensure that the battery is charged and the connections are clean and tight.
Locate the height adjustment lever usually situated near the seat and move it to the desired cutting height. Make sure the mower is on a flat surface before adjusting.
Ensure the fuel tank has fresh gasoline and the fuel valve is open. Check the spark plug for fouling and replace if needed. Confirm that the battery is charged and all connections are secure.
Sharpen the blades at least once every mowing season or after 25 hours of use. Dull blades can tear grass, leading to a brownish hue.
Clean the mower deck and blades thoroughly. Change the oil, remove the battery, and store it in a cool, dry place. Add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank and run the engine for a few minutes to circulate it.
Check for tire pressure discrepancies and ensure they are even. Inspect the mower deck for any obstructions or damage. Ensure the blades are sharp and properly balanced.
Ensure the engine is not clogged with grass debris, and clean the cooling fins. Check the oil level and add if necessary. Make sure the air intake is unobstructed.
