Ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open, set the choke to 'Full', and the throttle to 'Fast'. Then, pull the recoil starter or press the electric start button if equipped.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content.
Change the oil after the first 2 hours of operation and then annually or every 25 hours of use, whichever comes first.
Regularly inspect for wear or damage. Ensure the shear pins are intact and replace them if broken. Lubricate the auger shaft annually.
Check the drive belt for wear or damage and ensure it's properly tensioned. Verify that the drive cable is correctly adjusted.
Loosen the skid shoe nuts and adjust the shoes so that the scraper blade is 1/4 inch above the ground on smooth surfaces or 1/2 inch on gravel surfaces.
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and wait for all moving parts to stop. Use a clean-out tool or stick to clear the blockage. Never use your hands.
Ensure the engine is running at full throttle. Adjust the skid shoes to the proper height and consider using tire chains for better traction.
Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, clean the snow thrower, and inspect for any damage or needed repairs. Store in a dry place.
Check for stale fuel or debris in the fuel system. Clean or replace the spark plug, and ensure the air filter is clean. Adjust the carburetor if necessary.
