To start the Toro Power Throw 824, ensure that the fuel shut-off valve is open. Set the choke to the 'full' position and the throttle to 'fast'. Turn the ignition key to 'on' and pull the recoil starter handle. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke to the 'run' position.
Toro recommends using SAE 5W-30 oil for the Power Throw 824 38078. This oil provides optimal performance in the wide range of temperatures that the snow thrower might encounter during operation.
If the snow thrower is not starting, check for fuel availability and ensure the fuel valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or wear, and replace if necessary. Ensure the choke is set correctly and the ignition key is in the 'on' position.
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing the spark plug annually, changing the oil every 25 hours of operation, and inspecting the belts and auger for wear before each season. Lubricate moving parts and check tire pressure periodically.
To adjust the skid shoes, place the snow thrower on a flat surface. Loosen the skid shoe mounting nuts and slide the shoes to the desired height, ensuring they are level. Tighten the nuts securely to hold the position.
Check the auger and impeller for any obstructions or ice build-up. Ensure the chute is not clogged and is directed properly. Verify that the engine is running at full throttle. Consider adjusting the auger cable tension if necessary.
To replace the drive belt, disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Remove the belt cover and the old belt. Install the new belt over the auger pulley and drive pulley, ensuring proper alignment. Reattach the belt cover and reconnect the spark plug wire.
Excessive vibration may be due to loose parts or a damaged auger. Check all screws and bolts for tightness. Inspect the auger and impeller for any signs of damage or imbalance, and replace parts as needed.
Before storing, run the engine until the fuel tank is empty to prevent stale fuel problems. Change the oil, remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder before reinserting it. Clean the snow thrower and store it in a dry place.
To improve traction, consider installing tire chains or weights. Ensure that the tires are properly inflated as per the manufacturer’s recommendations. Adjust the skid shoes to raise the auger slightly, reducing the load on the tires.
