To start the Toro Power Shift 1028, ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open, set the choke to full, and move the throttle to 'Fast'. Pull the starter handle or use the electric starter, then gradually move the choke to 'Run' once the engine starts.
Use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
To change the oil, first warm up the engine, then turn it off and remove the oil drain plug. Allow the oil to drain completely, replace the drain plug, and refill with SAE 5W-30 oil.
Check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Verify that the ignition key is inserted and the choke is set correctly. If it still won't start, inspect the spark plug and replace if necessary.
Run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel, change the oil, and remove the spark plug. Add a few drops of oil into the cylinder and pull the starter handle gently to distribute the oil. Store the snow thrower in a dry place.
To adjust the skid shoes, loosen the mounting nuts, slide the shoes to the desired height (usually 1/8 to 1/4 inch above the ground), and retighten the nuts. Ensure both sides are even.
Before the season, check the spark plug, change the oil, inspect belts for wear, lubricate all moving parts, and ensure the auger and impeller are free of obstructions.
Turn off the engine and remove the key. Use a wrench to remove the broken shear pin from the auger, align the holes, and insert a new shear pin. Secure it with the cotter pin provided.
Check the scraper blade for wear and adjust or replace if necessary. Also, ensure the skid shoes are set correctly to allow the scraper blade to make proper contact with the ground.
Excessive vibration can be due to loose parts, damaged auger, or impeller. Inspect these components and tighten any loose bolts or replace damaged parts.
