To start the Toro Power Max 1028OHXE, ensure the machine is on a flat surface. Turn the fuel shutoff valve to 'On', set the choke, and prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb 3-4 times. Pull the recoil starter or use the electric start if available. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke to the 'Run' position.
The Toro Power Max 1028OHXE requires clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline containing more than 10% ethanol.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of operation, then every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Ensure the engine is warm before draining to ensure complete removal of old oil.
If the snow thrower does not self-propel, check the drive control cable for proper tension and adjust if necessary. Also, inspect the drive belt for wear or damage and replace if needed.
To adjust the skid shoes, place the snow thrower on a flat surface. Loosen the skid shoe nuts, adjust the shoes to the desired height, and retighten the nuts. Ensure both skid shoes are set at the same height for even clearing.
For off-season storage, drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the engine oil, remove the spark plug, and add a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter rope a few times to distribute the oil and replace the spark plug. Clean the snow thrower and store it in a dry, sheltered area.
To improve throwing distance, ensure the chute is clear of obstructions. Check the auger and impeller for wear and replace if necessary. Adjusting the engine speed to full throttle can also help increase throwing distance.
If the engine does not start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Verify that the spark plug is connected and in good condition. Ensure the choke is set correctly and the primer bulb has been pressed. If it still does not start, the carburetor may need cleaning or adjustment.
To clear a clogged chute safely, first shut off the engine and wait for all moving parts to stop. Use a clean-out tool or stick to remove the blockage. Never use your hands to clear a clogged chute.
To replace the drive belt, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Remove the belt cover and note the belt's routing. Loosen the belt tension and remove the old belt. Install the new belt following the same routing, adjust the tension, and replace the cover.
