To start the Toro Guardian 19-inch 21647 mower, ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check that the fuel tank is filled and the oil is at the correct level. Press the primer bulb 3-5 times, pull the throttle lever to the 'start' position, and pull the starter handle briskly.
If the mower won't start, verify the fuel is fresh and the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Check the air filter for clogs and ensure the carburetor is not dirty. If these steps don't solve the issue, consult the user manual or a professional technician.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use for a new mower, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season thereafter.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
Ensure the blade is sharp and balanced. Cut grass when it is dry and regularly clean the underside of the mower deck to prevent grass build-up. Adjust the cutting height to fit the length of the grass.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the old spark plug using a socket wrench. Install the new spark plug, tighten it securely, and reattach the spark plug wire. Use the spark plug type specified in the owner's manual.
Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. If it's a foam filter, wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry. For paper filters, gently tap it to remove dirt or replace it if heavily soiled. Reinstall the filter and the cover.
To store the mower for winter, clean the mower deck and engine, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, and store it in a dry place. Remove the spark plug and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder to prevent rust.
Uneven cutting can be caused by a dull blade, an improperly leveled mower deck, or mowing too fast. Sharpen and balance the blade, check and adjust the deck level, and ensure you mow at a moderate pace.
Check the drive cable for tension and adjust it if necessary. Inspect the belt for wear or damage and replace it if needed. Clean the drive system to remove any debris that might be obstructing its movement.
