To start the Toro 52-cm 20709 Mower, ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Press the primer bulb 3 times, engage the blade control lever, and pull the recoil starter handle.
Check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for damage or wear and clean or replace it if necessary. Ensure the air filter is clean and the primer bulb is functioning.
Sharpen the mower blades at least once per mowing season or more frequently if the mower is used extensively. Dull blades can damage the grass and reduce mower efficiency.
To clean the mower deck, disconnect the spark plug wire, then tip the mower onto its side. Use a hose to wash away grass clippings and debris. Ensure the deck is dry before storing.
Locate the air filter cover on the side of the engine. Remove the cover and replace the old filter with a new one, ensuring it fits securely before reattaching the cover.
Use SAE 30 motor oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always refer to the user manual for specific recommendations.
Ensure the mower blades are sharp, the deck is clean, and the cutting height is set appropriately for the grass type. Regular maintenance will also enhance performance.
To winterize, empty the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, clean the mower thoroughly, and store it in a dry place. Disconnect the spark plug and remove the battery if applicable.
Excessive smoke may indicate oil spillage or overfilling. Check the oil level and ensure it is not above the full mark. Inspect the air filter and replace it if it is dirty.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced or damaged blade. Inspect the blade for damage and ensure it is properly balanced and securely attached.
