The Toro 51950 trimmer requires a fuel mixture of 50:1 ratio of unleaded gasoline to 2-cycle oil. Ensure you use fresh fuel for optimal performance.
To replace the trimmer line, first turn off the trimmer and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the spool cap by pressing the two release tabs. Take out the old line, then insert a pre-cut line or wind new line, following the direction indicated on the spool. Reattach the spool cap securely.
If the trimmer won't start, check the fuel level and ensure it is not stale. Verify that the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Also, inspect the air filter for dirt and replace it if necessary. If issues persist, consult the user manual or a professional technician.
Clean the air filter after every 10 hours of use or sooner if operating in dusty conditions. A clean air filter ensures optimal engine performance and longevity.
The Toro 51950 trimmer uses a Champion RDJ7Y or equivalent spark plug. Ensure the spark plug gap is adjusted to 0.025 inches for proper ignition.
If the trimmer line frequently breaks, it might be due to incorrect line size or type. Ensure you are using a compatible line as specified in the manual. Also, avoid hitting hard surfaces and keep the line at the correct cutting length.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn the screw clockwise to increase idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it. Adjust until the engine runs smoothly without the cutting head spinning.
After seasonal use, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to empty the carburetor. Clean the air filter, check and replace the spark plug if necessary, and inspect the trimmer for any loose or damaged parts. Store in a dry place.
To reduce vibration, ensure all components are securely fastened. Balance the trimmer by adjusting the handle position and use a fresh, properly installed trimmer line. Excessive vibration may also indicate worn or damaged parts, so inspect the trimmer thoroughly.
Always wear protective eyewear, gloves, and long clothing when operating the trimmer. Keep bystanders, especially children and pets, at a safe distance. Be cautious of debris and avoid using the trimmer near windows or vehicles.
