Ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check the fuel and oil levels. Pull the starter handle briskly after setting the choke if the engine is cold.
Check the fuel tank to ensure there's enough fuel and that it is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Ensure all safety switches are engaged properly.
Sharpen the blade after approximately every 25 hours of use or at least once per mowing season to ensure optimal performance.
Toro recommends using SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C).
Disconnect the spark plug and tilt the mower to its side. Use a hose to remove grass clippings and debris. Avoid using high-pressure water to prevent damage.
Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, clean the mower thoroughly, and store it in a dry, sheltered location. Disconnect the battery if applicable.
Check for a bent or damaged blade and replace if necessary. Ensure that the blade is balanced and securely fastened. Inspect for debris lodged in the mower deck.
Use the height adjustment lever located near each wheel. Adjust all four levers to the same position to ensure an even cut.
Change the oil, inspect the air filter and replace if dirty, sharpen the blade, and check all nuts and bolts for tightness.
Set the cutting height to a higher setting for the first pass, then lower it gradually. Ensure the blade is sharp and mow when the grass is dry.
