To start the Toro 44-inch 30144 mower, ensure it's on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and place the throttle in the 'fast' position. Then, turn the key to the 'start' position until the engine starts.
Check if the battery is charged, the fuel tank is filled, and the spark plug is clean. Ensure the safety switch is engaged and the parking brake is on.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 5W-30 for colder temperatures.
Disconnect the spark plug, remove the blade using a wrench, sharpen with a file or grinder, and ensure balance before reattaching.
Drain the fuel, change the oil, clean the mower deck, and check the battery charge. Store in a dry, covered area.
Locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel and move them to the desired position for your preferred cutting height.
Check for debris lodged in the blade, uneven blade wear, or a loose blade. Also, inspect engine mounting bolts and balance the blade if necessary.
Ensure tires are properly inflated, adjust cutting height to avoid scalping, and mow across slopes instead of up and down.
Inspect the blade for sharpness and damage, check tire pressures for consistency, and ensure the deck is level from side to side.
