Ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is correct. Engage the parking brake, set the throttle to 'Fast', engage the choke if the engine is cold, and turn the key or pull the starter rope to start the engine.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, and inspecting belts and cables for wear.
Check for a dull blade, uneven tire pressure, or a clogged deck. Also, ensure the mower deck is level and not damaged.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and 10W-30 for a broader temperature range, as specified in the operator's manual.
Disconnect the spark plug, tilt the mower safely, use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, replace the blade, and ensure it is securely fastened.
Check for fuel issues, a disconnected spark plug, a clogged air filter, or a faulty ignition system. Ensure all safety switches are engaged.
Locate the height adjustment lever near each wheel and adjust to the desired cutting height, ensuring all wheels are set to the same position.
Refer to the operator's manual, but generally, the recommended tire pressure is around 13 psi for the front tires and 10 psi for the rear tires.
Ensure the blades are sharp, mow when the grass is dry, avoid cutting more than one-third of the grass height at once, and clean the deck regularly.
Check for a damaged or unbalanced blade, loose bolts, or worn-out belts. Tighten or replace parts as necessary.
