To start the mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, the spark plug wire is connected, and the throttle is set to 'choke' if the engine is cold. Pull the starter cord briskly.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 40°F (4°C) and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 40°F. Always check the oil level before each use.
Sharpen the mower blade every 20-25 hours of use or whenever you notice a decrease in cutting performance. Ensure the blade is balanced after sharpening.
This could be due to a dirty air filter, stale fuel, or a clogged fuel line. Check and clean the air filter, replace the fuel with fresh gasoline, and inspect the fuel line for blockages.
Ensure the engine is off and the spark plug wire is disconnected. Use a hose to rinse the underside of the deck, removing any grass clippings and debris. Allow the deck to dry before storage.
Check the drive cable for proper tension and ensure it is not damaged. If the cable is intact, inspect the drive belt for wear and replace if necessary.
Ensure the blade is sharp and properly balanced. Mow when the grass is dry and adjust the cutting height to prevent overloading the mower.
Change the oil, clean or replace the air filter, inspect the spark plug, and sharpen the blade. Store the mower in a dry place and disconnect the spark plug wire.
Remove the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install the new plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with the wrench and reattach the spark plug wire.
Check if the blade is bent or unbalanced and inspect for any loose bolts or parts. Tighten any loose components and replace or balance the blade if necessary.
