To start the Toro 21-inch 58604 Tiller, ensure the fuel tank is filled with fresh gasoline. Set the choke lever to the "choke" position, engage the safety lever, and pull the starter cord briskly. Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the "run" position.
If the tiller is not starting, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Verify that the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Additionally, inspect the air filter for clogs and clean or replace it as necessary.
It is recommended to change the oil in your Toro tiller after the first 5 hours of use, and then every 25 hours of operation or at the beginning of each tilling season. Use SAE 30 oil for optimal performance.
Before storing the tiller for winter, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Change the oil, clean the tiller thoroughly, and check for any worn or damaged parts. Store the tiller in a dry, sheltered place.
To adjust the tilling depth, locate the depth stake at the rear of the tiller. Loosen the adjustment knob, move the stake to the desired depth, and tighten the knob securely. Deeper settings will till more deeply into the soil.
If the tines are not rotating, check for obstructions like rocks or debris. Ensure the tine control lever is engaged and inspect the drive belt for wear or damage. Replace the belt if necessary.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install a new, properly gapped spark plug and reconnect the wire. Ensure the spark plug is tightened securely.
The Toro 21-inch 58604 Tiller requires unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content to prevent damage to the engine.
To improve performance in hard soil, make multiple passes over the area, gradually increasing the depth with each pass. Ensure the tines are sharp and consider adding weight to the tiller for better soil penetration.
Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye protection and sturdy footwear. Keep hands and feet away from moving parts, and never leave the tiller running unattended. Ensure the area is clear of obstacles before tilling.
