To start the Toro 21-inch 22188 Mower, ensure that the fuel valve is open, the choke is engaged, and the throttle is set to the "start" position. Pull the starter handle firmly until the engine starts.
Use SAE 30 detergent oil with an API service classification of SF, SG, SH, SJ, SL, or higher for optimal performance. Check the oil level frequently and replace as needed.
Sharpen the blades after approximately 25 hours of mowing or whenever you notice a decline in cutting performance. Always disconnect the spark plug before performing maintenance.
Check the fuel level, spark plug condition, and ensure the air filter is clean. Make sure the fuel valve is open and the choke is properly engaged.
To change the air filter, remove the cover by unscrewing the fasteners. Take out the old filter and replace it with a new one of the same type. Secure the cover back in place.
Clean the mower thoroughly and remove any debris. Drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer. Store the mower in a dry, sheltered area and disconnect the spark plug.
Adjust the cutting height by moving the height adjustment levers located on each wheel. Ensure all four wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
Regularly check and change the oil, clean or replace the air filter, and inspect the spark plug. Follow the maintenance schedule in the user manual for optimal performance.
Ensure the blades are sharp, and mow at a higher setting to avoid overloading the engine. Consider mowing more frequently to prevent grass from becoming too tall.
Excessive vibration can be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Inspect the blades for damage and balance them if necessary. Tighten any loose bolts or screws.
