To start the Toro 2 HP 58402 Edger, first ensure it is on a flat surface. Check the fuel level and add gasoline if necessary. Set the choke to the 'start' position, pull the starter cord firmly, and once the engine starts, move the choke to the 'run' position.
If the blade is not spinning, check for any obstructions around the blade. Ensure the drive belt is intact and properly tensioned. If the belt is damaged, it may need to be replaced. Also, inspect the blade engagement lever or cable for any disconnections.
Regular maintenance should be performed before each use, including checking the oil level and blade condition. Seasonally, you should change the oil, clean or replace the air filter, and inspect the spark plug.
Toro recommends using SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F (0°C). Always check the owner's manual for specific oil recommendations.
To replace the blade, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a wrench to remove the blade nut and washer, then take off the old blade. Install the new blade, ensuring it is properly seated, and secure it with the washer and nut.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel level and quality. Inspect the spark plug for dirt or wear, and replace it if necessary. Ensure the air filter is clean and that the choke is set correctly.
To store the edger for winter, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer. Clean the edger thoroughly, including the blade and air filter. Store it in a dry place and cover it to protect from dust and moisture.
The Toro 2 HP 58402 Edger is primarily designed for edging along sidewalks and driveways. While it can handle light trimming tasks, it is not as efficient as a dedicated string trimmer for grass trimming.
Always wear safety goggles and gloves when operating the edger. Ensure the area is clear of debris and bystanders. Keep hands and feet away from the blade while the edger is running.
To adjust the blade depth, locate the depth adjustment lever or knob on the edger. Move it to raise or lower the blade to the desired cutting depth. Refer to the user manual for specific instructions.
