To start the Toro 18-inch 51998 Trimmer, ensure the unit is on a flat surface. Set the choke lever to the "Choke" position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, then pull the starter handle briskly. Once the engine starts, move the choke lever to the "Run" position.
Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Mix with high-quality 2-cycle oil at a ratio of 50:1 for optimal performance.
To replace the trimmer line, turn off the trimmer and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the spool cap, then carefully remove any remaining line. Insert new line into the spool, winding it evenly, and replace the cap securely.
If the trimmer won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected, and verify the air filter is clean. If issues persist, inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace it if necessary.
To clean the air filter, remove the filter cover located on the side of the engine. Take out the filter and wash it with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before reinstalling.
Perform regular maintenance by checking the air filter and spark plug every 10 hours of use, and cleaning or replacing them as needed. Inspect and replace the fuel filter annually or after 50 hours of use.
To improve performance, use fresh fuel, ensure the air filter is clean, keep the cutting head free of debris, and regularly inspect and replace the trimmer line with the correct size and type.
If the trimmer line breaks frequently, check for debris or obstructions on the cutting path, ensure the line is wound correctly, and use the manufacturer's recommended line size and type.
To store the trimmer, drain the fuel tank or run the engine until it stops. Clean the unit thoroughly, check for worn or damaged parts, and store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
Excessive vibration may be due to an unbalanced cutting head or damaged parts. Inspect the cutting head for balance and check for loose or damaged components. Tighten or replace as necessary.
