To start the Toro 18-inch 20856 Mower, first ensure the fuel tank is filled with fresh gasoline. Press the primer bulb three times to prime the engine. Pull the starter handle with a firm, steady motion.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For temperatures below 32°F (0°C), use SAE 5W-30. Always check the oil level before operation.
The mower blade should be sharpened at least once per mowing season, or more frequently if the mower is used on rough or sandy terrain.
Check that there is fuel in the tank and the engine is primed. Ensure the spark plug is connected and in good condition. Clean or replace the air filter if it is dirty.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on each wheel. Move the lever to the desired position, ensuring all four wheels are set to the same height.
After use, remove grass clippings and debris with a brush or hose. Ensure the mower is turned off and cool before cleaning. Avoid spraying water directly on the engine.
Perform an oil change after the first 5 hours of use, then annually or every 25 hours. Clean or replace the air filter annually. Sharpen the blade and check the spark plug annually.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Install a new plug, ensuring it is properly gapped, and reconnect the wire.
Excessive vibration can be caused by a damaged blade or loose parts. Inspect the blade for damage and tighten any loose components. Replace the blade if necessary.
Before storing, clean the mower thoroughly and perform recommended maintenance. Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Store in a dry, covered area away from corrosive materials.
