To start the Toro 18-inch 20780C Mower, ensure the fuel valve is open, set the throttle to the 'fast' position, and pull the starter handle briskly.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level before each use, cleaning the air filter every 25 hours, and sharpening the blade every 20-25 hours of use.
Check the fuel level, inspect the spark plug for wear, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the safety switch is engaged.
Use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10%.
Run the engine briefly to warm the oil, then unplug the spark plug. Tip the mower back, remove the oil cap, and drain the old oil into a container. Refill with SAE 30 oil.
Excessive vibration can be caused by an unbalanced blade. Check if the blade is damaged or improperly installed. Sharpen or replace the blade as needed.
After mowing, disconnect the spark plug, then use a hose to rinse off grass clippings and debris from the deck. Avoid using high-pressure water as it may damage components.
While it is possible to mow wet grass, it is not recommended as it can cause clogging and uneven cuts, and poses a safety risk due to slipping.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel and move them to the desired position. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height.
Ensure that the blade is sharp and properly installed. Also check if the deck is clean and that the mower is set to the correct cutting height.
