To replace the line on your Toro 11-inch 51301 Trimmer, first unplug the trimmer. Remove the spool cap by pressing the tabs on the sides and pulling it off. Take out the spool and remove any remaining line. Insert a new 13-foot, 0.065-inch diameter line into the spool, leaving about 6 inches free. Wind the line in the direction indicated on the spool. Reinstall the spool and cap.
If your Toro trimmer won't start, check to ensure it's properly plugged in if it's electric. For gas models, make sure there's sufficient fuel and the fuel is fresh. Check the spark plug for damage or wear. Additionally, review the air filter for clogs or dirt. Clean or replace these components as necessary.
To improve performance, regularly clean the trimmer's cutting head and ensure the line is the correct size and properly wound. Keep the air filter clean and replace it if it's worn out. Regularly inspect and clean the spark plug, replacing it if necessary.
Routine maintenance includes checking and replacing the trimmer line, cleaning the air filter, inspecting and cleaning the spark plug, and ensuring all bolts and screws are tight. Lubricate moving parts and clean the trimmer after each use to prevent buildup.
To clean the air filter, first disconnect the power source. Remove the air filter cover and take out the filter. Wash it with warm, soapy water and let it dry completely. Reinstall the filter and cover. Replace the filter if it's damaged or excessively dirty.
Frequent line breakage can be due to using the wrong line size or type, or the line being wound too tightly. Ensure you are using a 0.065-inch line as specified. Avoid running the trimmer too close to hard surfaces. Check for sharp edges or obstacles that may be cutting the line.
Use a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord that matches or exceeds the power requirements of the trimmer. For cords up to 50 feet, use at least a 16-gauge cord. For longer distances, use a 14-gauge cord to prevent power loss and overheating.
Clean the trimmer thoroughly and remove any debris. For electric models, store in a dry place and coil the cord neatly to avoid damage. For gas models, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Store in a dry, covered area away from direct sunlight.
To adjust the handle, locate the adjustment lever or knob on the handle. Loosen it to move the handle to the desired position for comfort and balance. Once adjusted, tighten the lever or knob securely to ensure the handle remains stable during use.
If the line feeds too slowly or not at all, check that the spool is installed correctly and not jammed. Ensure the line is wound in the right direction and is the correct size. Clean any debris from the cutting head and inspect the line cutter for sharpness.
