To start the Toro 1010 51245C Trimmer, ensure that the unit is on a flat surface. Move the choke lever to the "Start" position, press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible, and then pull the starter handle swiftly until the engine starts.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87 and mix it with high-quality 2-cycle engine oil at a ratio of 50:1. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol content.
To replace the trimmer line, first turn off the engine and disconnect the spark plug. Remove the spool from the trimmer head, unwind any remaining line, and then wind new line around the spool, following the directional arrows. Reattach the spool to the trimmer head.
If the trimmer won't start, check the fuel level and quality, ensure the spark plug is clean and properly connected, and verify that the air filter is not clogged. Adjust the choke lever and repeat the starting procedure.
Clean the air filter every 10 operating hours or more frequently if used in dusty conditions. Remove the filter cover, take out the filter, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry before reinstalling.
To store the trimmer, empty the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops. Clean the unit thoroughly, inspect for any damage, and store it in a dry, well-ventilated area. Consider using a fuel stabilizer if storing with fuel.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged cutting attachments, loose components, or engine issues. Inspect and replace any damaged parts, ensure all screws and bolts are tightened, and check the engine mountings.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn the screw clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it, ensuring the engine runs smoothly without the trimmer head moving.
To prevent line breakage, avoid contact with hard surfaces, ensure the line is wound correctly on the spool, and use the recommended line size. Regularly inspect the line for wear and replace it as needed.
Regular maintenance includes checking and replacing the spark plug annually, cleaning the air filter every 10 hours, inspecting and replacing the trimmer line as needed, and ensuring all screws and bolts are tight.
