To perform regular maintenance on the Subaru EY28B engine, change the oil every 50 hours of operation, clean or replace the air filter every 100 hours, and inspect the spark plug every 100 hours. Additionally, check and tighten bolts and nuts as needed.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Inspect the spark plug for signs of wear or damage, and verify that the ignition switch is in the "on" position. Also, ensure that the choke is set correctly for starting.
To troubleshoot overheating, check for obstructions in the cooling fins and ensure the engine is not overloaded. Verify that the oil level is adequate and the air intake is unobstructed. Clean the cooling fins regularly to prevent overheating.
The recommended oil for the Subaru EY28B engine is SAE 10W-30 for general use. In colder climates, SAE 5W-30 may be suitable. Always refer to the owner's manual for specific recommendations based on operating conditions.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the idle speed screw and the mixture screw. Start the engine and allow it to warm up. Adjust the idle speed screw to achieve the desired rpm, then adjust the mixture screw to obtain a smooth idle.
To replace the spark plug, first disconnect the spark plug wire. Use a spark plug socket to remove the old plug. Check the gap on the new plug and adjust if necessary, then install the new spark plug and reconnect the wire.
To clean the air filter, remove the air cleaner cover and take out the filter. If it's a foam filter, wash it with warm soapy water, rinse, and let it dry completely. If it's a paper filter, tap it gently to remove dust or replace it if it's too dirty.
White smoke can indicate water or coolant entering the combustion chamber. Check for leaks in the head gasket or other components. Ensure the fuel is fresh and not contaminated with water.
To store the engine, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, and remove the spark plug to add a few drops of oil into the cylinder. Pull the recoil starter gently to distribute the oil, then reinstall the spark plug. Store in a dry place.
Signs of a failing ignition coil include difficulty starting the engine, poor performance, backfiring, and a decrease in fuel efficiency. If these symptoms occur, the ignition coil may need to be tested and replaced.
