The Subaru EY21 engine should be serviced every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Key maintenance tasks include checking and replacing the air filter, changing the engine oil, and inspecting the spark plug.
If the engine won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the fuel valve is open, and the choke is in the correct position. Inspect the spark plug for fouling and verify that the ignition system is functioning properly.
Use SAE 10W-30 oil for temperatures ranging from 0°C to 40°C. For colder environments, consider using SAE 5W-30. Always refer to the owner's manual for specific oil recommendations.
To prevent overheating, ensure the cooling fins are clean and unobstructed. Regularly check and maintain the correct oil level and use the engine within its specified load limits.
Check for clogged air filters, dirty fuel, or fouled spark plugs. Clean or replace the air filter and spark plug, and ensure the fuel is fresh and the carburetor is properly adjusted.
To adjust the carburetor, locate the idle mixture screw and adjust it to achieve a smooth idle. Turn the screw clockwise to lean the mixture and counterclockwise to enrich it. Ensure adjustments are made slowly and incrementally.
Black smoke is usually caused by a rich fuel mixture. Check for a clogged air filter and ensure the carburetor is properly adjusted. Inspect the choke to ensure it is not stuck in the closed position.
To replace the spark plug, disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug. Check the gap on the new plug, install it, and reconnect the spark plug wire.
First, check the air filter and fuel for cleanliness. Inspect the spark plug and replace if necessary. Ensure the carburetor is correctly adjusted and the engine is not overloaded.
Drain the fuel from the tank and carburetor, change the engine oil, and remove the spark plug. Add a few drops of oil into the cylinder, then pull the recoil starter slowly to distribute the oil. Store in a dry, covered location.
