Sony DCR-HC21 Operating Guide

To transfer videos, connect your Sony DCR-HC21 to your computer using a USB or FireWire cable. Ensure the camera is in 'Play/Edit' mode. Install any necessary drivers from Sony’s website, and use compatible video capture software to import the video files to your computer.
First, check the battery level and ensure it’s charged. Try using the AC power adapter to rule out battery issues. If it still doesn’t turn on, inspect the battery contacts for dirt or corrosion and clean them if necessary. If the problem persists, a professional service may be required.
Use a soft, dry cloth to gently wipe the lens. For stubborn smudges, use a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. Avoid using rough materials or excessive force to prevent scratching the lens.
To reset the camcorder, turn it on and press the 'Reset' button located on the side of the device using a pointed object. This will restore the default factory settings.
Check the display settings to ensure the color settings are correct. Additionally, make sure the video cables are properly connected if playing back on an external device. Color issues might also be due to using incompatible video standards (e.g., NTSC vs PAL).
Connect the camcorder to the AC power adapter and plug it into a power outlet. The battery will charge while connected. Ensure the camcorder is turned off for faster charging.
The Sony DCR-HC21 uses MiniDV tapes for recording. Ensure you have compatible tapes for optimal performance.
For better audio quality, consider using an external microphone connected to the camcorder’s microphone jack. Additionally, minimize background noise and ensure the microphone is directed towards the sound source.
This warning appears when there's a rapid change in temperature or humidity. Turn off the camcorder and let it acclimate to the new environment. Avoid using the device until the warning disappears to prevent damage.
Use an A/V cable to connect the camcorder’s A/V output to the TV's A/V input. Set the TV to the appropriate input channel and switch the camcorder to 'Play/Edit' mode. You should now see the playback on your TV screen.
