To thread the Singer 14SH644/14SH654 serger, follow the color-coded threading guides on the machine. Start with the upper looper, then the lower looper, right needle, and finally the left needle. Ensure the thread is correctly seated in the tension discs.
Check if the needles are inserted correctly and not bent. Ensure that the machine is threaded correctly and the tension settings are appropriate for the fabric being used.
Regularly clean the lint from under the needle plate and around the loopers using a small brush. Oil the machine as instructed in the manual and always keep it covered when not in use to prevent dust accumulation.
Differential feed is used to prevent stretching or puckering of fabrics. Adjust it for knit or stretch fabrics to achieve a smooth finish, or for gathering or stretching effects on woven fabrics.
Ensure that the machine is properly threaded, with no loose threads. Check for any obstructions in the loopers and remove any lint buildup. Also, ensure that the needle is not bent or dull.
Adjust the tension dials located on the front of the machine. Test on a scrap piece of fabric and make small adjustments as necessary until the desired stitch quality is achieved.
Use standard serger needles, size 14/90 for medium weight fabrics, or size 11/75 for lighter fabrics. Ensure they are compatible with your specific Singer serger model.
To change the presser foot, raise the presser foot lever, press the foot release button to detach the current foot, and snap the new foot into place. Ensure it is securely attached before use.
Thread breakage can be caused by incorrect threading, too tight tension, or using unsuitable thread. Re-thread the machine, check tension settings, and use good-quality thread.
To perform a rolled hem, remove the left needle, adjust the stitch length to 1-2, and set the tension for a tight stitch. Use the stitch finger lever to select the rolled hem setting.
