To change the oil, first run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then turn off and disconnect the spark plug wire. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug, remove the plug, and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
If the tractor won't start, check the battery connections to ensure they are clean and secure, verify the fuel level, inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and ensure the fuel valve is open. A faulty ignition switch or safety switch may also be the issue.
Routine maintenance should be performed every 50 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season. This includes checking and changing the oil, inspecting the air filter, checking tire pressure, and inspecting belts and blades for wear.
The Simplicity 1690015 tractor is designed to run on unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using E85 fuel as it can cause damage to the engine components.
Uneven cutting can be caused by dull blades, incorrect deck leveling, or tire pressure variance. Sharpen or replace the blades, ensure the deck is level, and check that all tires are inflated to the recommended pressure.
If the engine overheats, stop the tractor immediately and allow it to cool. Check for obstructions in the air intake, ensure the cooling fins are clean, and verify the oil level is correct. It's also important to check the coolant level if applicable.
First, disconnect the spark plug wire for safety. Remove the mower deck, release the tension on the belt tensioner, and remove the old belt. Install the new belt following the diagram in the owner’s manual, re-tension the belt, and reinstall the deck.
To prolong battery life, keep the terminals clean and free of corrosion, ensure a tight connection, and recharge the battery every few months during off-season storage. Avoid deep discharging the battery as much as possible.
To store the tractor for winter, clean it thoroughly, change the oil, add a fuel stabilizer, and run the engine for a few minutes. Disconnect the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
Signs that blades need sharpening or replacement include uneven grass cutting, torn or shredded grass tips, and increased engine strain. Regularly inspect the blades for nicks or bends and sharpen them as needed.
