To descale your Shark GI505 55 Iron, fill the water tank with equal parts of vinegar and water. Turn on the iron and set it to the steam setting. Allow it to steam for a few minutes, then empty the tank and rinse with clean water. Repeat if necessary.
If the iron is not heating up, first check if it is plugged in properly. Ensure that the temperature dial is set to the appropriate setting. If it still doesn't heat, try resetting by unplugging and replugging the iron. If the problem persists, contact Shark customer support.
To clean the soleplate, unplug the iron and let it cool. Use a damp cloth with a mixture of mild detergent and water to wipe the soleplate. For stubborn stains, use a paste of baking soda and water. Rinse and dry thoroughly before use.
Water leaking from the iron can be caused by using the steam function at too low a temperature. Ensure the temperature setting is appropriate for steam. Also, avoid overfilling the water tank and ensure the iron is on a flat surface during use.
It is recommended to use distilled or demineralized water to prevent mineral build-up and prolong the life of your iron. If tap water is used, ensure regular descaling to prevent clogs.
The auto shut-off feature is a safety mechanism that turns off the iron after a period of inactivity. It activates after 30 seconds if left on its soleplate or tipped over, and after 8 minutes if left upright.
To store the iron safely, ensure it is unplugged and completely cooled down. Empty any remaining water from the tank and wrap the cord loosely around the base. Store in an upright position to prevent damage.
Adjust the steam settings using the steam control dial located on the handle of the iron. Select the desired steam level based on the fabric type you are ironing. Refer to the fabric guide on the iron for optimal settings.
If the iron emits a burning smell, turn it off immediately and unplug it. Allow it to cool down, then check for any residue on the soleplate. Clean the soleplate if necessary and ensure the vents are not blocked. If the smell persists, contact customer support.
To prevent fabric shine, use a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric. Adjust the temperature setting to match the fabric type and avoid using excessive pressure. Test on a small area first to ensure no damage occurs.
