To start the hedge trimmer, ensure the device is on a stable surface. Switch the ignition toggle to the 'on' position and firmly press the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible. Hold the safety handle and pull the starter cord briskly until the engine starts.
The Scheppach TPH500 requires a mixture of unleaded petrol and high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at a ratio of 40:1. Ensure the mixture is well-blended to maintain engine performance.
If the trimmer won't start, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel mixture is correct. Inspect the spark plug for fouling and clean or replace if necessary. Also, ensure the air filter is clean and not clogged.
Regular maintenance includes cleaning the air filter, checking and replacing the spark plug if needed, lubricating the blades, and inspecting the fuel system for any leaks or blockages.
To sharpen the blades, first disconnect the spark plug for safety. Use a flat file to sharpen each cutting edge at the same angle as the original cutting edge. Ensure all blades are uniformly sharpened.
Excessive vibration may be due to loose components or imbalanced blades. Check that all screws and bolts are tightened properly. Inspect the blades for damage or imbalance and service them if needed.
For off-season storage, clean the trimmer thoroughly and empty the fuel tank to prevent stale fuel issues. Store the trimmer in a dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Cover it to prevent dust accumulation.
Some smoke can be normal, especially when starting with a cold engine. However, excessive smoke may indicate an incorrect fuel mix or oil burning. Check the fuel mixture ratio and ensure the air filter is clean.
Wear protective eyewear, gloves, and hearing protection. Ensure the work area is clear of debris and obstructions. Do not operate the trimmer above shoulder height to avoid loss of control.
First, disconnect the spark plug boot. Use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Install the new spark plug by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten it securely with the wrench. Reattach the spark plug boot.
