To set up the Scheppach HMS850, start by assembling the stand and securing the machine. Ensure the tables are level and parallel. Adjust the blade height according to the manual, using a straight edge for precision. Double-check all bolts and screws for tightness.
Always wear safety goggles and ear protection. Make sure the dust extraction system is connected and functional. Keep hands clear of the blades and use push sticks for small workpieces. Ensure the machine is turned off when making adjustments.
Check the power supply and ensure the machine is plugged in. Verify that the circuit breaker has not tripped. Inspect the power switch and internal wiring for any signs of damage. Consult the manual for fuse information and replace if necessary.
Ensure the blades are sharp and properly aligned. Check the feed rate and adjust the infeed and outfeed tables for levelness. Verify that the workpiece is flat and free of debris. If issues persist, calibrate the cutter head alignment.
Regular maintenance should be performed after every 10 hours of use. This includes cleaning the machine, lubricating moving parts, checking blade sharpness, and inspecting the dust extraction system. Annually, conduct a thorough inspection and recalibration.
First, unplug the machine. Remove the blade guard and loosen the blade locking screws. Carefully remove the blades and either replace them or sharpen using a suitable sharpening tool. Reinstall the blades, ensuring they are aligned correctly, and tighten the screws securely.
Inspect the feed rollers for debris or wear. Clean them thoroughly and, if necessary, replace them. Check the tension settings and adjust according to the manual. Ensure the workpiece is not too thick for the machine’s capacity.
Use the thickness adjustment knob to set the desired thickness. Rotate the knob clockwise to decrease and counterclockwise to increase thickness. Use the scale on the side for precision and ensure the lock lever is engaged after setting.
The Scheppach HMS850 can process most softwoods and hardwoods. However, ensure the moisture content is low to prevent damage to the blades. Avoid using reclaimed wood with embedded nails or other foreign objects.
Clean the machine thoroughly to remove all sawdust and debris. Apply a light coat of oil to the metal parts to prevent rust. Cover the machine with a dust cover and store it in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
