Peavey Patriot Bass Owner's Manual

To set up your Peavey Patriot Bass Guitar, start by adjusting the truss rod to ensure the neck is straight. Then, set the action by adjusting the bridge saddles to your preferred string height. Finally, intonate the guitar by adjusting the saddle positions until the open string and 12th fret note are in tune.
If your bass is not staying in tune, check the tuning pegs for stability and tighten any loose screws. Ensure the strings are properly wound on the pegs and consider replacing old strings. Also, check the nut and bridge for any obstructions that might be causing tuning issues.
Buzzing can be caused by low action or uneven frets. Raise the string action slightly by adjusting the saddles, or check for high frets and consider having them leveled by a professional. Also, ensure the neck has the correct amount of relief by adjusting the truss rod.
Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the body, neck, and headstock after each use. For a deeper clean, use a guitar-specific polish and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Avoid using household cleaners as they can damage the finish.
To reduce feedback, position yourself and the amplifier so that the pickups are not directly facing the amp. Lower the gain and volume levels, and consider using a noise gate pedal. Ensure all cables are shielded and check for any grounding issues.
Common electronic issues include crackling pots, loose input jacks, and faulty pickups. Regularly clean pots and switches with contact cleaner, ensure all connections are secure, and consider upgrading components if problems persist.
If the action is too high or too low, or if there is excessive buzzing, the truss rod may need adjustment. Check the neck relief by pressing the first and last frets of a string and measuring the gap at the 8th fret. Adjust the truss rod to achieve the desired neck relief.
To upgrade the pickups, first remove the strings and pickguard. Unsolder the existing pickups and solder the new ones in place, following the wiring diagram provided with the new pickups. Ensure all connections are secure before reassembling the guitar.
The recommended string type depends on your playing style. For a bright tone, consider stainless steel roundwound strings. For a warmer tone, nickel-plated or flatwound strings are suitable. Gauge preference varies, but medium gauge is a versatile option.
To fix a loose strap button, remove the button and fill the hole with a small amount of wood glue and a toothpick or wooden dowel. Allow it to dry, then re-drill the hole slightly smaller than the screw for a tight fit. Reattach the strap button securely.
