To start the McCulloch M56-551SMDW, ensure the fuel tank is filled and the oil level is adequate. Pull the choke lever to the start position, then pull the starter cord firmly. Once the engine starts, move the choke lever to the run position.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning or replacing the air filter, sharpening the blades, and ensuring the spark plug is in good condition. Refer to the user manual for detailed instructions.
Blades should be sharpened at least once a season or after every 25 hours of use to ensure optimal cutting performance. Dull blades can damage the grass and strain the mower engine.
Use SAE 30 oil for temperatures above 32°F (0°C) and SAE 10W-30 for temperatures below 32°F. Always check the manual for any specific recommendations from the manufacturer.
Check the fuel level and ensure the fuel is fresh. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage, and clean or replace the air filter if clogged. Also, make sure the choke is in the start position and the safety lever is engaged.
Excessive vibration may be due to an unbalanced or damaged blade. Inspect the blades for damage and ensure they are properly balanced and securely fastened. Also, check for debris lodged in the cutting area.
The cutting height can be adjusted using the lever located on each wheel. Move the lever to the desired height setting, ensuring all wheels are set to the same level for an even cut.
Check the drive cable for proper tension and ensure it is not damaged or disconnected. Also, inspect the drive belt for wear or breakage and replace if necessary.
Clean the mower thoroughly, removing grass clippings and debris. Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer, and change the oil. Store the mower in a dry place, and cover it to protect it from dust and moisture.
It is not recommended to mow wet grass as it can cause clumping and uneven cutting. Wet conditions can also make the mower slip, posing a safety hazard. Wait until the grass is dry for best results.
