To start the McCulloch M5553D, ensure fuel and oil levels are adequate. Prime the engine by pressing the primer bulb three times. Pull the starter rope firmly while holding the safety handle.
Use unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 87 or higher. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, then every 25 hours or at the beginning of each mowing season. Use SAE 30 oil for best results.
Check for sufficient fuel, ensure the spark plug is connected, and examine the air filter for blockages. Ensure the safety handle is fully engaged.
Adjust the cutting height using the lever located on each wheel. The mower offers several height settings to choose from.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, cleaning the air filter, sharpening the blades, and inspecting for loose bolts or worn parts.
After disconnecting the spark plug, tip the mower on its side and use a brush or hose to remove grass clippings and debris from the deck.
Excessive vibration may be due to unbalanced blades or loose components. Check the blades for damage and ensure all nuts and bolts are tightened.
The McCulloch M5553D uses a Champion RC12YC or equivalent spark plug. Check the manual for specific recommendations.
For winter storage, drain the fuel tank, change the oil, clean the mower thoroughly, and store it in a dry, sheltered location. Disconnect the spark plug to prevent accidental starts.
