To start the McCulloch CLASSIC Plus M165-97T, ensure the mower is on a flat surface. Check that the brake is engaged and the cutting deck is disengaged. Turn the ignition key to start the engine, and once it starts, release the key.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level, inspecting and cleaning the air filter, sharpening the blades, checking tire pressure, and ensuring all nuts and bolts are tight. Follow the manufacturer's schedule for oil changes and spark plug replacement.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level, ensure the spark plug is connected properly, and inspect the air filter for dirt. Also, verify that the battery is charged and the terminals are clean and secure.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired cutting height position. Ensure the mower is off and the blades are not moving while making adjustments.
Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using ethanol blends higher than 10% as they can cause damage to the engine components.
To replace the blades, first disconnect the spark plug wire to prevent accidental starts. Use a wrench to remove the blade bolt, then carefully remove the old blade. Install the new blade, ensuring it's correctly oriented, and tighten the bolt securely.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check the blades for damage or imbalance and replace or sharpen them if necessary. Inspect the mower deck and chassis for loose parts and tighten them.
To winterize the mower, clean it thoroughly and remove any grass clippings. Change the oil, add fuel stabilizer to the tank, and run the engine for a few minutes. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use and then every 25 hours of operation or at the start of each mowing season. Always check the oil level before each use.
If the cutting quality is poor, check the blades for dullness or damage. Sharpen or replace them if necessary. Ensure the deck is clean and properly adjusted, and that the grass is not too wet or overly tall when mowing.
