To perform regular maintenance, ensure the engine oil is changed every 50 hours of operation, clean or replace air filters as needed, check tire pressure, and ensure blades are sharp. Additionally, inspect belts and clean debris from the deck after each use.
If the mower won't start, check the fuel level and ensure it's not stale. Verify the battery charge and connections. Inspect the spark plug for wear and replace if necessary. Also, check the air filter for clogs.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the height adjustment lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired position, ensuring both sides are adjusted equally for an even cut.
John Deere recommends 10W-30 engine oil for most climates. However, refer to your owner's manual for specific recommendations based on your local climate conditions.
Uneven cutting can be due to dull blades, incorrect deck level, or tire pressure imbalance. Sharpen the blades, level the deck, and ensure tire pressures are equal.
Excessive vibration may be caused by an unbalanced blade, debris in the deck, or loose bolts. Check for and remove any debris, tighten bolts, and balance or replace the blade if necessary.
To sharpen mower blades, disconnect the spark plug, remove the blade, and use a grinder or file to sharpen the cutting edge. Ensure the blade is balanced before reinstalling it.
Replace the air filter every 100 hours of use or annually, whichever comes first. If operating in dusty conditions, check and clean the filter more frequently.
If the engine overheats, check the oil level and ensure it's filled. Clean any debris from the engine cooling fins and ensure the air intake is not obstructed.
To winterize the mower, drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer, change the oil, remove the battery for storage, and clean the mower thoroughly. Store in a dry place.
