To adjust the cutting height, first ensure the tractor is on a level surface and the cutter is disengaged. Adjust the height by changing the position of the wheel spacers on the gauge wheels. Ensure both sides are set to the same height for an even cut.
Perform daily checks of the blade condition, gearbox oil level, and driveline components. Lubricate all grease points every 50 hours of operation, and check the torque on all bolts and fasteners regularly.
Uneven cutting can be caused by improper deck leveling, dull blades, or varying tire pressure. Check and adjust deck level, sharpen or replace blades, and ensure tire pressures are equal.
John Deere recommends using SAE 80W-90 gear oil for the gearbox. Always check the oil level before operation and top off as necessary.
First, ensure the tractor is turned off and the cutter is securely supported. Remove the blade bolts and detach the old blades. Install new blades by aligning them with the bolt holes and securing them with the bolts, ensuring they are tightened to the recommended torque.
Excessive vibration may be due to unbalanced or damaged blades. Inspect the blades for damage or imbalance and replace if necessary. Also, check the driveline for any loose components.
To prevent rust, clean the cutter thoroughly after each use to remove debris and moisture. Apply a rust-inhibiting spray or paint to any exposed metal surfaces and store the cutter in a dry, sheltered location.
Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as gloves and eye protection. Ensure all shields are in place and secure before operating. Keep bystanders away and be mindful of the cutter's swing radius.
Use a calibrated torque wrench to check the blade bolts. The recommended torque is typically specified in the operator's manual. Check the torque with the cutter securely supported and the tractor off.
If the cutter is not cutting cleanly, inspect the blades for sharpness and damage. Sharpen or replace as needed. Check the deck level and ensure it is parallel to the ground for optimal cutting performance.
