To start the John Deere Clod Buster, ensure that the machine is in neutral, the PTO is disengaged, and the parking brake is on. Turn the ignition key to the start position and hold it until the engine starts. Release the key immediately after the engine starts.
The recommended maintenance schedule for the Clod Buster includes checking engine oil and coolant levels before each use, changing the oil every 100 hours of operation, and inspecting the air filter every 50 hours. Additionally, lubricate all moving parts every 200 hours.
If the Clod Buster won't start, check the battery connections for corrosion, ensure the fuel tank is full, and verify that the fuel filter is not clogged. Also, check the spark plugs and replace them if necessary.
If the engine overheats, immediately shut it down and allow it to cool. Check the coolant level and refill if necessary. Inspect the radiator for blockages or damage, and ensure the fan is operational.
To change the oil, run the engine until it reaches operating temperature, then shut it off. Place a pan under the engine, remove the oil drain plug, and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the drain plug, change the oil filter, and refill with the recommended oil type and amount.
To ensure efficient operation, always perform a pre-use inspection, including checking tire pressure, hydraulic fluid levels, and ensuring all implements are securely attached. Adjust the plow depth according to soil conditions.
Common hydraulic issues include leaks and loss of pressure. Check all hoses and connections for leaks, replace any damaged hoses, and ensure hydraulic fluid is at the correct level. If pressure loss persists, inspect the pump and valves for damage.
To clean the air filter, remove the filter cover, take out the filter, and gently tap it to remove loose dirt. Use compressed air to blow out remaining debris from the inside out. Reinstall the filter and cover if it's in good condition; otherwise, replace it.
Before storing, clean the Clod Buster thoroughly, drain the fuel system, change the oil, and lubricate all moving parts. Store it in a dry, sheltered location, and disconnect the battery to prevent discharge.
To improve traction, ensure that the tires are at the correct pressure and consider using tire chains. Adjust the ballast for better weight distribution and engage the differential lock if available.
