It is recommended to inspect the air filter every 50 hours of operation and replace it if it appears dirty. Generally, replacing it every 100 hours is advisable for optimal engine performance.
First, disconnect the spark plug to ensure safety. Remove the blades and secure them in a vice. Use a file or a sharpening tool to evenly sharpen each blade, maintaining the original angle. Reinstall the blades and ensure they are balanced.
Regular maintenance is key. Ensure the air filter and fuel filter are clean, use the recommended oil type, and keep the tires properly inflated. Additionally, avoid mowing at full throttle unless necessary.
Black smoke usually indicates a rich fuel mixture. Check the air filter for clogs and clean or replace it if necessary. Also, inspect the carburetor settings and adjust them according to the manufacturer's specifications.
Disconnect the spark plug wire and use a spark plug wrench to remove the old spark plug. Install a new spark plug, ensuring it is properly gapped according to the manual, and reconnect the spark plug wire.
John Deere recommends using unleaded gasoline with a maximum of 10% ethanol (E10) for the D45C. Avoid using fuels with higher ethanol content as they can cause damage to the engine components.
Clean the mower thoroughly and change the oil. Add a fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank, run the engine for a few minutes, then turn it off. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the mower to protect it from dust and moisture.
Locate the height adjustment levers on each wheel. Move the levers to the desired position for each wheel to set the cutting height. Ensure all wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
