It is recommended to perform routine maintenance every 50 hours of operation, including checking the engine oil, air filter, and inspecting belts for wear. Additionally, a more comprehensive service should be done every 200 hours.
First, check the battery for charge and ensure all connections are tight. Inspect the spark plug for fouling or damage and replace if necessary. Verify that the fuel is fresh and that the fuel filter is clean.
Clean the mower thoroughly to remove grass and debris, change the oil, and add a fuel stabilizer to the gas tank. Store the mower in a dry, sheltered area and disconnect the battery to prevent discharge.
John Deere recommends using SAE 10W-30 oil for the PRO 43B, especially in varying temperature conditions. Ensure the oil meets API service classification SJ or higher.
The cutting height can be adjusted using the lever located near each wheel. Ensure the mower is on a level surface and adjust each wheel to the desired height setting.
Check for debris stuck in the blades or under the deck. Inspect the blades for damage or imbalance and sharpen or replace them as needed. Ensure that all nuts and bolts are tightened securely.
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and gently tap it to remove dirt and debris. If the filter is excessively dirty, wash it with warm, soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry completely before reinstalling.
Disconnect the spark plug wire for safety, remove the blade, and secure it in a vice. Use a file or grinding wheel to sharpen the blade, maintaining the original angle. Balance the blade before reinstalling.
Ensure regular maintenance, such as changing the oil and air filter. Keep the blades sharp and clean to reduce engine strain, and avoid mowing with a full fuel tank to reduce weight.
Stop the mower immediately and check the oil level to ensure it is not overfilled. Inspect for any oil leaks around the engine. If the problem persists, consult a professional technician for further diagnosis.
