The recommended maintenance schedule includes daily checks of the hydraulic oil level, engine oil level, and coolant level. Every 250 hours, change the engine oil and filter, inspect the air cleaner, and check the battery. Every 500 hours, replace the fuel filter and hydraulic oil filter. Annually or every 1000 hours, inspect the cooling system and replace the hydraulic oil.
Start by checking for any visible leaks in the hydraulic lines. Ensure that the hydraulic oil level is correct and inspect the condition of the hydraulic filter. Listen for unusual noises from the hydraulic pump, which may indicate cavitation or air in the system. If problems persist, consult the service manual for detailed diagnostics or contact a certified technician.
First, stop the loader and allow the engine to cool. Check the coolant level and look for any leaks in the cooling system. Ensure that the radiator is clean and not obstructed by debris. Inspect the fan belt for proper tension and condition. If the problem continues, it may be necessary to check the thermostat and water pump.
Clean the loader thoroughly to remove dirt and debris. Ensure all fluids are topped off, and consider using fuel stabilizer in the fuel tank. Store the loader in a dry, sheltered location to protect it from the elements. Disconnect the battery to prevent drainage, and periodically start the loader to keep the systems in working condition.
Conduct a walk-around inspection, checking for any visible damage or leaks. Ensure all lights and indicators are functioning. Verify that the brakes and steering systems are responsive. Check tire pressure and the condition of the tracks. Ensure that all safety devices, such as the seatbelt and backup alarm, are operational.
Maintain your loader regularly, ensuring that filters are clean and fluids are at the proper levels. Avoid idling the engine for extended periods and operate the loader at optimal RPMs. Plan your work to minimize unnecessary travel and reduce load on the engine. Ensure that tire pressures are correct, as under-inflated tires can increase fuel consumption.
John Deere recommends using its own brand of hydraulic fluid, Hy-Gard, for optimal performance and protection. It’s important to use fluid that meets or exceeds John Deere JDM J20C specifications. Always refer to the operator’s manual for specific fluid recommendations.
Locate the air filter housing and remove the cover. Carefully take out the old air filter, ensuring no debris falls into the air intake. Clean the interior of the housing, if necessary, and install a new filter. Ensure the cover is securely fastened to prevent dirt from entering the system.
Check the fuel system for any leaks or blockages, and ensure the fuel filter is clean. Inspect the air filter and replace it if it’s dirty or clogged. Verify that the turbocharger (if equipped) is functioning properly. If the issue persists, it may require a diagnostic check by a professional technician to identify any underlying mechanical or electronic issues.
Regularly clean the battery terminals and ensure they are tightly connected. Monitor the battery's charge level and recharge it when necessary. Avoid leaving the loader's electrical systems on when the engine is off to prevent unnecessary drainage. Store the loader in a sheltered area to protect the battery from extreme temperatures.
