READ THIS MANUAL carefully to learn how to operate and service your machine correctly. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or equipment damage. This manual and safety signs on your machine may also be available in other languages. (See your John Deere dealer to order.)
THIS MANUAL SHOULD BE CONSIDERED a permanent part of your machine and should remain with the machine when you sell it.
MEASUREMENTS in this manual are given in both metric and customary U.S. unit equivalents. Use only correct replacement parts and fasteners. Metric and inch fasteners may require a specific metric or inch wrench.
RIGHT-HAND AND LEFT-HAND sides are determined by facing in the direction the implement will travel when going forward.
WRITE PRODUCT IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS (P.I.N.) in the Specification section. Accurately record all the numbers to help in tracing the machine should
it be stolen. Your dealer also needs these numbers when you order parts. File the identification numbers in a secure place off the machine.
WARRANTY is provided as part of John Deeres support program for customers who operate and maintain their equipment as described in this manual. The warranty is explained on the warranty certificate which you should have received from your dealer.
This warranty provides you the assurance that John Deere will back its products where defects appear within the warranty period. In some circumstances, John Deere also provides field improvements, often without charge to the customer, even if the product is out of warranty. Should the equipment be abused, or modified to change its performance beyond the original factory specifications, the warranty will become void and field improvements may be denied. Setting fuel delivery above specifications or otherwise overpowering machines will result in such action.
THE TIRE MANUFACTURERS warranty applicable to your machine may not apply outside the U.S.

OPERATE TRACTOR AND CUTTER SAFELY
All rotary cutters are potentially dangerous machines. This rotary cutter has been designed to minimize the chance of accidents but there is no substitute for a careful operator.
Flywheel effect of blade holder will drive tractors with transmission drive PTOs forward, even when tractor clutch is disengaged. Travel slowly near ditches, trees, or large objects. To stop, slow engine speed and apply brakes before disengaging clutch. W

BACK UP SAFELY
Do not operate the cutter in reverse unless necessary. First, look carefully behind the cutter.
Be very careful when you back the tractor with the PTO engaged. Material can be discharged from the front of the cutter. This increases risk of injury to the operator from thrown objects.

USE SAFETY LIGHTS AND DEVICES
Prevent collisions between other road users, slow moving tractors with attachments or towed equipment, and self-propelled machines on public roads. Frequently check for traffic from the rear, especially in turns, and use hand signals or turn signal lights.
Use headlights, flashing warning lights, and turn signals day and night. Follow local regulations for equipment lighting and marking. Keep lighting and marking visible and in good working order. USE A SAFETY CHAIN
A safety chain will help control drawn equipment should it accidentally separate from the drawbar.
Using the appropriate adapter parts, attach the chain to the tractor drawbar support or other specified anchor location. Provide only enough slack in the chain to permit turning.
See your John Deere dealer for a chain with a strength rating equal to or greater than the gross weight of the towed machine. Do not use safety chain for towing.

PRACTICE SAFE MAINTENANCE WHEN REPLACING BLADES AND BLADE HOLDER
The blades and blade holder may rotate for several minutes after PTO is shut off. Look and listen for rotating driveline to stop before working on the cutter.
When servicing blades or blade holder, it will be necessary to work underneath cutter. Be sure to support cutter frame with safety stands to prevent accidental lowering. Do not position safety stands under axle or wheel supports because these components can rotate. W

PRACTICE SAFE MAINTENANCE
Understand service procedure before doing work. Keep area clean and dry.
Never lubricate, service, or adjust machine while it is moving. Keep hands, feet , and clothing from power-driven parts. Disengage all power and operate controls to relieve pressure. Lower equipment to the ground. Stop the engine. Remove the key. Allow machine to cool.
Securely support any machine elements that must be raised for service work.
Keep all parts in good condition and properly installed. Fix damage immediately. Replace worn or broken parts. Remove any buildup of grease, oil, or debris.
Disconnect battery ground cable (-) before making adjustments on electrical systems or welding on machine.

AVOID HIGH-PRESSURE FLUIDS
Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury.
Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure.
Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids.
If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable medical source. Such information is available from Deere & Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, U.S.A.

SELECTING TRACTOR 3-POINT HITCH CUTTER
IMPORTANT: Do not operate the cutter with an articulated tractor; steering causes quick movement at hitch which may result in damage to cutter.
The cutter is approved for tractors that meet or exceed the implement codes. Tractor stability is necessary for safe operation. (See your tractor operators manual for complete ballasting information.)
Determine required ballast by using information in chart.
1. Enter base machine implement code on line 1.
2. Enter code for each attachment on line 2.
3. Add to determine total implement code.
4. See your tractor operators manual to determine amount of front ballast.
IMPORTANT: If the total implement code exceeds the maximum implement code for your tractor, the machine/attachment combination is not recommended.

ATTACHING PULL-TYPE CUTTER
N CAUTION: Help prevent bodily injury or death caused by unexpected tractor movement. Engage parking brake and/or place transmission in PARK, shut off engine, and remove key before attaching cutter.
N CAUTION: To avoid injury from escaping hydraulic oil under pressure, relieve the pressure in the system by shutting off tractor and moving remote cylinder operating levers in both directions before attaching hoses to or detaching hoses from the breakaway couplers.
N CAUTION: Hydraulic hoses can fail due to physical damage, kinks, age and exposure. Check hoses regularly. Replace damaged hoses.
After applying pressure to the system, check all hydraulic connections and hoses for leaks.
IMPORTANT: Be certain to check tractor hydraulic oil level after filling cylinder with oil for the first time.
1. Connect cylinder hose (A).
For cutter without jack, use cutter lift cylinder to raise or lower hitch to drawbar height.
2. Attach cutter to drawbar with 28 mm (1-1/8 in.) hitch pin and secure with spring locking pin.
3. Attach driveline.
4. Route safety chain through support (B) and attach to tractor.
IMPORTANT: To avoid breaking chain, adjust chain length to remove all slack except what is needed for turns.
5. Lock hook on chain and store jack (if equipped) on cutter frame.
6. Connect warning lights (if equipped).
