To perform an oil change, warm up the engine, place a drain pan under the oil pan, remove the drain plug, and allow the oil to drain completely. Replace the oil filter, reinstall the drain plug, and refill with the recommended oil.
The recommended tire pressure for the Indian Chief Classic 2017 is 36 psi for the front tire and 40 psi for the rear tire. Always check the tire pressure when the tires are cold.
Check the battery connections to ensure they are tight and corrosion-free. Verify the battery charge and test the starter motor. Also, ensure the clutch lever is fully engaged and the kill switch is set to 'run'.
Follow the maintenance schedule outlined in the owner’s manual, which includes regular oil changes every 5,000 miles, tire inspections, brake checks, and periodic coolant and brake fluid replacements.
To adjust the suspension, locate the suspension adjustment knobs near the rear shock absorbers. Use the appropriate tool to turn the knobs to increase or decrease preload based on your riding preference and load.
If the engine overheats, pull over safely and shut off the motorcycle. Allow the engine to cool, then check the coolant level and look for any leaks. If the problem persists, consult a professional mechanic.
To replace the brake pads, remove the caliper bolts, slide out the old pads, insert new pads, and reattach the caliper. Ensure the brake fluid level is adequate and test the brakes before riding.
Use a damp cloth to wipe away dirt and dust, then apply a high-quality leather cleaner. Finish with a leather conditioner to keep the seat supple and protected from UV rays.
To check the drive belt tension, use a belt tension gauge to measure the deflection in the middle of the belt span. Adjust the tension by loosening the rear axle nut and turning the tension adjustment bolts equally on both sides.
To winterize, clean the motorcycle thoroughly, add a fuel stabilizer to the tank, change the oil, remove the battery and store it in a warm place, and cover the bike to protect it from dust and moisture.
