To change the oil, first run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, which helps the oil drain out smoothly. Turn off the engine and remove the key. Position an oil pan under the engine, remove the oil drain plug, and let the old oil drain completely. Replace the drain plug, and refill with new oil as specified in the manual.
First, check if there's enough fuel in the tank and that the fuel is fresh. Ensure the battery is charged and the connections are clean. Inspect the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Make sure the air filter is clean and not clogged.
It's recommended to sharpen the mower blades after every 25 hours of use or at least once per mowing season. Dull blades can tear grass instead of cutting it cleanly, which may lead to lawn damage.
Before storing your mower for winter, clean it thoroughly to remove grass clippings and debris. Drain the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer. Change the oil, remove the spark plug, and add a few drops of oil into the cylinder. Store the mower in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements.
To adjust the cutting height, locate the lever on the mower deck. Move the lever to the desired position, which is typically marked with numbers indicating the cutting height in inches. Always adjust the height with the engine off and key removed for safety.
At the start of the season, perform a thorough inspection of the mower. Check and replace the oil and oil filter, clean or replace the air filter, inspect and potentially replace the spark plug, sharpen the blades, and check tire pressure. Ensure all bolts and screws are tightened.
Check if the mower deck is level by measuring from the ground to the blade tip on both sides. Adjust the deck if necessary. Ensure the blades are sharp and undamaged. Also, check tire pressure; uneven pressure can cause one side of the mower to cut lower than the other.
Excessive vibration could be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades. Check the blades for bends or damage and sharpen or replace them as needed. Vibration can also result from loose bolts or mounts, so inspect and tighten as necessary.
Use clean, fresh, unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid ethanol blends higher than 10%, as they can cause damage to the engine components.
After ensuring the engine is off and the spark plug is disconnected, use a garden hose to rinse off grass clippings and debris. For stubborn buildup, use a plastic scraper or brush. Avoid using harsh chemicals or high-pressure washers that could damage the deck.
