To change the oil, run the engine for a few minutes to warm it up, then stop the engine. Remove the ignition key, and disconnect the spark plug wire. Place a container under the oil drain valve, open the valve, and drain the oil. Replace the oil filter and fill with new oil as specified in your manual.
Check the battery connections for corrosion and ensure they are tight. Verify that the fuel tank has gasoline and the fuel valve is open. Check the spark plug for wear or damage and replace if necessary. Also, ensure the parking brake is engaged and the blades are disengaged.
Blades should be sharpened at least once a mowing season or after 25 hours of use. However, if you notice uneven cutting or the grass looks torn, it may be time to sharpen the blades sooner.
Use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with a minimum octane rating of 87. Avoid using gasoline with more than 10% ethanol, as this can damage the engine.
Adjust the cutting height by using the deck lift lever, typically located on the operator's right-hand side. Move the lever to the desired position, which ranges from 1.5 to 4 inches, depending on your model.
Excessive vibration may be caused by unbalanced or damaged blades, loose bolts, or debris stuck in the mower deck. Inspect and balance or replace blades if needed, tighten any loose bolts, and clear debris from the deck.
Ensure the tires are properly inflated according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Adding weight to the rear of the tractor or using tire chains can also help improve traction on slopes.
Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, replacing the air filter and spark plug, inspecting the blades, cleaning the mower deck, and checking tire pressure. Refer to your owner's manual for specific intervals.
After mowing, remove any grass clippings or debris from the deck. Use a hose to wash under the deck, but avoid using high-pressure water. For stubborn debris, use a brush or scraper. Ensure the deck is dry to prevent rust.
Clean the tractor thoroughly and perform any necessary maintenance. Drain the fuel or add a fuel stabilizer. Remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place. Cover the tractor to protect it from dust and moisture.
