To check the oil level, ensure the ATV is on level ground. Remove the dipstick, clean it, reinsert it without screwing it in, and then remove it again to check the oil level. The oil should be between the upper and lower marks.
Honda recommends using SAE 10W-30 for general use or SAE 5W-30 in colder climates for the TRX250TM FourTrax Recon 2018. Always ensure the oil is API service classification SG or higher.
To change the air filter, remove the seat, access the airbox cover, and remove it. Take out the old air filter and replace it with a new one, ensuring it is seated properly. Reattach the airbox cover and seat.
If the ATV won't start, check the battery for charge, ensure the fuel valve is on, and verify the kill switch is in the 'run' position. Also, inspect the spark plug for damage or fouling.
Regular maintenance should be performed every 100 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first. This includes oil changes, air filter inspections, and checking brake pads and fluid levels.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 2.2 psi and for the rear tires is 2.9 psi. Always check tire pressures when the tires are cold.
To adjust the idle speed, locate the idle speed adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it. Idle speed should be set to 1,400 ± 100 rpm.
If the ATV is overheating, check the coolant level, inspect the radiator for obstructions, and ensure the fan is functioning properly. Avoid riding in extreme heat conditions and ensure adequate airflow to the engine.
To replace the spark plug, remove the spark plug wire, use a spark plug wrench to remove the old plug, and install a new plug with the correct gap. Reattach the spark plug wire securely.
To clean the fuel system, use a fuel system cleaner additive specifically designed for ATVs, following the instructions on the product. It's also important to regularly inspect the fuel filter and replace it if necessary.
