To change the oil, first warm up the engine to ensure the oil drains smoothly. Turn off the engine and place an oil pan under the drain plug located at the bottom of the engine. Remove the drain plug and allow the oil to fully drain. Replace the drain plug and refill with the recommended oil type and quantity.
Honda recommends using SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 oil that is specifically designed for 4-stroke engines. Ensure the oil meets or exceeds the requirements for API service classification SG or higher.
If your ATV won't start, check the battery for sufficient charge. Inspect the spark plug for wear and replace if necessary. Ensure the fuel is fresh and the fuel line is not clogged. Finally, check the kill switch position and make sure the ATV is in neutral.
The recommended tire pressure for the front tires is 2.9 psi (20 kPa) and for the rear tires is 2.9 psi (20 kPa). Always check tire pressure when the tires are cold for the most accurate reading.
To clean the air filter, remove the seat and the air filter cover. Carefully take out the air filter and wash it with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry completely. Once dry, apply a light coat of air filter oil before reinstalling.
Regular maintenance should be performed based on the owner's manual recommendations. Typically, you should check the engine oil, air filter, and tire pressure before each ride. More extensive checks and adjustments should be done every 100 hours of operation or annually, whichever comes first.
If the engine overheats, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe area and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down. Check for any obstructions in the air intake or cooling fins. Make sure the oil level is adequate and that the cooling system (if applicable) is functioning properly.
While the TRX250TM is designed for off-road use, avoid deep water that can submerge the engine or electrical components. If water ingress occurs, it is critical to dry and inspect all affected parts to prevent damage or corrosion.
To adjust the chain tension, first loosen the rear axle nut. Adjust the chain tensioner bolts on either side of the swingarm to achieve the correct tension, ensuring about 3/4 inch of slack. Tighten the axle nut once the desired tension is reached.
Signs that the brakes may need servicing include squeaking or grinding noises, reduced braking power, and a spongy brake lever feel. Inspect the brake pads for wear and replace them if they are below the recommended thickness. Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary.
