To reset the oil maintenance light, turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine. Press the "Trip" button repeatedly until "Oil Life" is displayed. Hold down the "Trip" button for about 10 seconds until the oil life percentage starts to blink. Release, then hold the button again for about 5 seconds until the oil life resets to 100%.
Honda recommends using SAE 0W-20 full synthetic oil for optimal performance and efficiency in a 2012 Honda Insight.
To improve fuel efficiency, ensure your tires are properly inflated, perform regular maintenance such as oil changes and air filter replacements, drive smoothly, and reduce excess weight by removing unnecessary items from the vehicle.
A squealing noise at startup can be caused by a worn or loose serpentine belt. Inspect the belt for wear and tension, and replace or adjust it if necessary.
The recommended tire pressure for a 2012 Honda Insight is typically 32 psi for the front tires and 30 psi for the rear tires. However, always verify with the sticker located on the driver's side door jamb.
The air filter should be inspected every 15,000 miles and replaced every 30,000 miles or as needed based on your driving conditions.
To jump start, ensure both vehicles are off. Connect the positive cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery, then to the positive terminal of the donor battery. Connect the negative cable to the donor battery's negative terminal and the other end to an unpainted metal surface on the dead car's engine block. Start the donor vehicle, then the Insight. Remove cables in reverse order after starting.
The check engine light can be triggered by various issues such as a loose gas cap, faulty oxygen sensor, catalytic converter issues, or spark plug problems. It's advisable to have the vehicle scanned for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) to identify the specific issue.
Open the glove box and remove the damper arm on the right side. Push in on both sides of the glove box to release it from the dashboard. Once dropped, you will see the cabin air filter cover. Remove the cover, pull out the old filter, and insert the new one, ensuring the airflow arrows point in the correct direction. Reassemble the glove box.
If the hybrid battery is not charging, first check the battery connections for looseness or corrosion. Ensure the hybrid system is not in "ECO" mode, which can affect charging. If issues persist, it's best to have the system checked by a qualified Honda technician as it may indicate a fault within the hybrid system.
