Regular maintenance includes checking and changing the oil, inspecting the air filter, and examining the spark plug. Refer to the owner's manual for specific intervals and procedures.
Use SAE 10W-30 oil for general use, ensuring it is a high-quality detergent oil classified for service SF, SG, SH, SJ, or higher.
Check the fuel level, inspect the spark plug for fouling, ensure the air filter is clean, and verify that the engine switch is in the 'ON' position.
Drain the fuel tank, run the engine until it stops from lack of fuel, change the oil, remove the spark plug and add a teaspoon of oil into the cylinder, then pull the starter rope a few times before replacing the spark plug.
Inspect the air filter every 25 hours of operation, and clean or replace it if necessary. Replacement should occur at least annually or every 100 hours.
Black smoke may indicate a rich fuel mixture. Check the air filter for dirt and ensure the choke is fully open once the engine warms up.
Inspect the spark plug for wear or deposits, ensure the air filter is clean, and check the fuel for contamination or age.
Locate the idle adjustment screw on the carburetor. Turn it clockwise to increase the idle speed or counterclockwise to decrease it, adjusting until the engine runs smoothly.
Use unleaded gasoline with a pump octane rating of 86 or higher, and it is acceptable to use fuel with up to 10% ethanol (E10). Avoid using E15 or E85.
Remove the spark plug cap, use a spark plug wrench to unscrew the old plug, and install a new one with a 0.6-0.7 mm gap. Tighten securely and replace the cap.
