To start the Honda GCV160 engine, ensure the fuel valve is open, move the throttle to the 'choke' position for a cold start, pull the starter rope gently until resistance is felt, then pull briskly. For a warm engine, set the throttle to 'fast' instead of 'choke'.
Use SAE 10W-30 oil for general use in the Honda GCV160 engine. Ensure the oil is API service category SJ or later.
First, check the fuel level and ensure the fuel valve is open. Verify the spark plug is clean and properly connected. Check the air filter for blockages and ensure the choke is set correctly for a cold start.
Change the oil after the first 5 hours of use, and subsequently every 50 hours or annually, whichever comes first.
The recommended spark plug for the Honda GCV160 engine is NGK BPR6ES or an equivalent. Ensure the spark plug gap is set to 0.7-0.8 mm (0.028-0.031 inches).
Remove the air filter cover, take out the filter, and inspect it for dirt and damage. Wash the foam filter in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to dry. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the foam filter before reinstalling.
Check for obstructions in the cooling fins and ensure the engine is not running in a confined, unventilated area. Verify the oil level is adequate and clean the air intake if necessary.
Maintain regular engine tune-ups, keep the air filter clean, use fresh fuel, and operate the engine at the recommended throttle settings. Avoid overloading the engine.
Regular maintenance includes checking the oil level before each use, changing the oil and air filter as recommended, inspecting and cleaning the spark plug, and checking and cleaning the cooling fins.
Drain the fuel from the tank and carburetor, change the oil, remove the spark plug and pour a tablespoon of clean engine oil into the cylinder, then pull the starter cord slowly to distribute the oil. Store the engine in a dry, cool place.
